Eleventh Annual Watersheds & Wetlands Workshop Carousel Resort Hotel, Ocean City, MD October 27-31, 2008
General Information The year between the Tenth and the Eleventh Watershed and Wetland Workshop can only be characterized as one of great change. Regional Manual Guidance has been developed and promulgated. Guidance concerning "connectivity" required by the Rapanos Supreme Court Decision has been developed. Most importantly, this June marked the release of the long-awaited "New Rule" concerning Compensatory Mitigation. Due to these great changes, and in keeping with our long-standing tradition of offering timely training and education, the Eleventh Wetlands & Watersheds Workshop will be offer a series of training seminars and workshops to help prepare you for the new regulatory arena. This year’s Workshop will: · Feature a plenary session on the Rapanos Decision and the changes it fosters in jurisdictional wetlands determinations. · Feature a three-part training on the Regional Manual. Three individual 1/2 day sessions on:
· Provide two 1/2 day sessions concerning the watershed approach for the protection of aquatic resources. · Offer an entire session on the changes brought about by the New Rule for Compensatory Mitigation released in June of this year featuring speakers from both the US Army Corps of Engineers and the US Environmental Protection Agency · Have three breakout sessions for hands-on learning. Your choice of:
· Will feature a student award for poster presenters. We will be joined by the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists. They will sponsor awards for the student poster session mentioned above, and have a business meeting. Take some time at the Workshop to join SWS if you are not already a member. Membership details will be available. The workshop will begin on Monday, October 27, 2008 in the morning and continue until Thursday, October 31, 2008 at 5:00 pm. At the end of each day, a social event is scheduled to enhance camaraderie in a casual atmosphere at the Carousel Resort Hotel. On Wednesday at 5:00 pm, all registrants are invited to attend a Society of Wetland Scientists Mid-Atlantic Chapter business meeting. Afterwards, there will be a Contributed Poster Session at the Carousel Resort Hotel as an opportunity for informal exchange. Contributors are invited to submit abstracts for inclusion in the Poster Program. |
