EIGHTH ANNUAL WETLANDS & WATERSHEDS WORKSHOP

Aquatic Systems and Water Quality

Holiday Inn-Boardwalk, Atlantic City , New Jersey

October 24-27, 2005

General Information

The Watersheds & Wetlands Workshop will be held at the Holiday Inn - Boardwalk in Atlantic City , New Jersey .  The purpose of this Workshop is to further investigate contemporary wetland issues that have been addressed in previous workshops using a watershed-based approach to environmental decision making and community based involvement. As always, at the Workshop we strive to increase dialogue and foster partnerships between federal, state, and local regulatory agencies, non-governmental organizations and the regulated community.  This year’s theme is watershed-based decision-making in the protection and management of aquatic ecosystems.

This year we are pleased to be meeting with the Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin, who have also joined in being a co-sponsor of the Workshop.  In addition, the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists will be meeting with us.

Mid-Atlantic Chapter

Numerous and varying issues all related to the protection of aquatic ecosystems will be discussed. Sessions will address tools for analyzing wetlands, watershed and wetland restoration, remote sensing of natural systems, and watershed scaled processes, among others. Participants and presenters will include representatives of academia, landowners, government employees, nonprofit organizations, consulting firms, and citizen organizations.

The Workshop will begin on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 12:30 pm and continue to Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at 4:30 pm. An optional field trip of the wetlands of the Pine Barrens is scheduled for Thursday, October 27, 2005.  The Workshop will end at different times Monday through Thursday.   At the end of each day, a social event is scheduled to enhance camaraderie in a casual atmosphere at the Holiday Inn.  On Wednesday evening, all registrants are invited to attend a Mixer from 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm at the Holiday Inn as an opportunity for informal exchange.

This year we will host a silent auction - proceeds to benefit hurricane relief.  Please consider donating items of interest to wetlands & watershed professionals and students.  Contact Frank Reilly to arrange to donate items.
